Proposal for Movie Opening

So I looked at the list of movie titles. Most of them seem like old movies which makes it hard because we would have to put on our thinking caps and try to see how thinks would be in that time period to fit the movie. I think I want to do JFK or Toy Story. I’ve never seen JFK but I think that it would be interesting to do a movie I hadn’t seen and know little about. But then on the other hand Toy Story is my favorite so I would love to do a movie I’ve seen and know beginning to end. In the thought that I would have to see the movie JFK to get a better feel of ideas I think I’m going to go with Toy Story which would be maybe a little harder cause I wanna do the movie justice. With that said here’s my ideas…

So because the movie is animated I think I’m going to stick with the animated opening. I think that using the same song “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” by Randy Newman from the original movie and opening would be a good idea. It really brings in the concept of the movie. I might do another song that I think fits if it’s possible. But other than at I like how the original sets the scene for us with Andy playing with the toys and showing us the different toys that he plays with that will be featured in the movie. So my idea is maybe mimicking the Napoleon Dinomite opening on how the different food and the name of the actor is there.  In the original the names of the actors are not present at all so I think this will give things a different spin. Maybe for Hamm I’ll do some Bacon or with Mr. Potato head put some French fries. I think putting the text in different spots and color for the characters is cool too. And moving in the same direction. I think that’s gonna be cool and different from what the original. We’ll see how it works out once I get working with the software. I might change things up. I just want it to be fun and different than the original but still allowing those that see it to get the message.

Opening Movie Title

Opening movie titles are pretty cool to look at. After watching a few different opening titles to a bunch of movies, I decided to chose 2 of my favorite movies. I went with Incredibles and Toy Story both are animated movies that I enjoy. I chose the Incredibles because the usage of animation and text. How the creator was able to make the opening seem like it was apart of the movie whole also introducing the characters within it. The super hero theme music helped as well. Makes you excited to watch the movie. Same thing with Toy Story. The song usage was very good since the movie is about the toys life as well as his friendship with his owner. The introduction of the characters but with little to no text is good too, it sets the scene for the movie. They’re both really cool also both my favorites.

Here is the Toy Story opening – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YrBbsnxNwbM&sns=tw

So I realized after that the Incredibles opening scene that I had chosen was actually a closing scene. I thought of one of my favorite shows Sons of Anarchy which has a pretty cool opening. I showed it in class through my Netflix account because I couldn’t find a clip of it online. But basically it has the songs and characters that relate to the show. The text of the opening is what I find most interesting about it. They have the moving text that goes from one place to disappearing all together. It’s a really cool opening.

Music Video Sharing

Okay so I finally thought of a video to choose after reviewing the class blog. If Power wasn’t chosen as an original example I would have done that. But then I thought about how Kanye has a bunch of videos with that similar theme or leaving it up to your interpretation. His song Flashing Lights is one of my favorites and the video is confusing but good as well. I think it falls in with the nondramatic storyline where there is no real point but it is up to the viewer to interpret what they think. I also think that the video for Runaway is also an example. So I’m going to use both just in case one isn’t and he other is but I’m pretty sure they both can be used.

Book Cover

So finally the day is here. Book Cover release day ! I chose to do 1984 by George Orwell. Now when I first started this I had some ideas. It wasn’t until when you actually get down to working is when you have to rethink them. I knew I wanted to use darker colors so no yellows or greens or pinks. After a few hours of sitting and thinking I managed to come up with a cover that I think is pretty cool. Because the book is about society and how backwards it is in this futuristic time I decided to put all these black silhouette men with one being red. That way he stands out amongst the crowd just like the main character in the book. I used Typography that reads “Big Brother Is Always Watching” which is a saying from in the book and I changed opacity of things to give it this cool look. All of this is on a white background with red and blue writing. The font is very crisp and clear just like the theme of the book. I think it’s the simpler version of what I had originally thought. I actually like this one way better though. It gives you a sense of the book whether you’ve read it before or not. But here it is. And here are some of the other covers that’s been released over the years.

Book Selection

So today is the day. After deliberating for a few days I have come up with the book cover I want to do over.  I have chosen one of my all time favorites, 1984 by George Orwell. When trying to make this decision I wanted to do something where I would be interested in as well as something others would want to read just by looking at the cover. I thought about all the other choices I could have done but I felt like they wouldn’t be easy. Any of the books I talked about in my Book Sharing post would be kinda complicated to do over only because the subject matter is all over the place. The authors talk about many different topics. A child’s book would also be a little hard too for me so I just thought about my favorites and which one would be the coolest to do. I had some ideas for the Lion King but that’s more of a movie than a book. They made the book after the fact, same thing with A Toys Story.  So I thought about Animal Farm, Brave New World, The Book Thief, To Kill A Mockingbird all of these were books I actually read in high school. They’re all classic sand I feel like classics would be the coolest ones to do over and for people to understand because most have read them or at least know of them.

So for the design I have this vision in my head but I don’t know how it’s going to come about once I start to work it out. I’m going to assume those reading this have read 1984, the whole theme of “Big Brother is watching”. I figured I’d have a bunch of eyes or TVs or video cameras on the cover. With some dark colors and maybe throw a charter or something on there I can make a cover that relates to the book. I looked up some different covers online and I wish I thought of these especially these two. I wish I thought of it first. They both give a good thought of what the book is about and both are interesting to look at. I’d read the book if I didn’t based off these covers. I look at ones like this for inspiration for my own over.

Sharing 2: Book Covers

I’m late but better late than never. I went to a few books stores last night actually looking for a book to read. I like to read autobiographies or memoirs . The ones by celebrities are my favorite, I’ll read anyone’s book actually as long as it has some humor or comedy. I just finished a book by Mindy Kaling which is full of humor so I love those. But while in the store I realized that they all autobiography covers look somewhat the same. They usually have who ever the author is on the front doing some face or just looking quirky. The colors of the covers usually varies based on the content or who the author is. I don’t really pay attention to the covers because they’re not usually anything special but some are actually cool especially when the author gets a little creative. But here’s some of the books that I saw and bought that were cool. I wouldn’t necessarily do these book covers over, but they are something that I’ve been thinking about.

image This was the first celebrity book that I read and I loved it. The cover is pretty simple. White couch, white background. The text is a light blue all centered. Pretty basic cover with the author on the cover with a smile on her face. This is actually what she looks like on her television show. This cover is pretty boring now that I think about it. I wouldn’t read it only because of that white background and then it really has nothing to do with the title. The title is just the title. I guess I did judge a book by its cover but then I actually read it so that’s weird.

These two covers were cool to me. The Bossypants book cover is very clean looking. Again it has he author on the cover cause it is an autobiography. Like I said earlier she’s kinda doing something quirky. With the man hands resting on her face. I don’t know the point of that. There are 2 different fonts with different colors and the title in italics plain colored background but still bright enough to catch the readers attention. With the Orange Is The New Black cover it’s right to the point. You see the prison shoes that are orange with the black background with white writing. It’s one of the memoirs I want to read. Since I watched the series. Both of these covers would make me read the book.

Chapters 11&14

When I first went to read I flipped through the pages and saw that the chapters seemed long. After starting to read I realized that it’s mainly filled with pictures. The pictures are soo cool too, I love looking at cool things like this. I figured I point this out because the chapter is on Design. I know it wasn’t purposely set up like this cause the whole book seems to have this design but it’s still cool. The book talks about the format of things and how it is set up based on the message it contains. “Design+Content=Message”. So I expect this book to have a bunch of photos followed by text. It’s message I take it is to inform us about visual communications. You have to think about the cost, planning, organization and sorting of the idea as a whole. There’s also thinking about the space that you’re going to use. Most books are Portrait in space, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a landscape or square like book. I’ve seen photos like this but that’s about it. And with all of that going on you still have to keep in mind you have a message you want to convey.

I think I’m gonna stop saying this book is interesting because I think that’s a given considering I took this class. It’s the class as a whole that is interesting. It’s really allowing me to see things and learn hinges I would have never known if I didn’t take the class. I actually believe that this should be one of those classes everyone has to take. Well at least some type of art or visual class. The things being taught are so cool. I’ve told my boyfriend about the documentary on Helvetica and he thought it was so cool too. He said he had no clue they made films on fonts. Like once you take a class like this it opens your eyes to things you normally wouldn’t see. You really become more visual. I guess that’s the point of the class though.

I’m finally getting a hang of this page now. I got a chance to play around with the different things on here and now I can post the readings in my page that I made specifically for the readings. I also changed the theme and i have a feeling that I’ll be changing the theme often to whatever fits my mood. WordPress is starting to get a little easier.
